‘Human Change Insights’ is a three-part series of episodes launched as part of our activities in the lead-up to Davos to engage, educate and empower parents, teachers, academics, policymakers and the medical community on the negative consequences digital devices can have on children’s cognitive development and wellbeing.
Our first episode launched on 13 September 2024 looked at The Global Movement for a Smartphone Free Childhood: Approaches, Challenges and Successes’. Our panellists discussed the lessons they’ve learnt and the challenges they’ve faced as they started building grassroots campaigns to raise awareness of the impact overexposure and digital addiction are having on children.
Our speakers were:
- Clare Fernyhough, Business Psychologist and Co-Founder of Smartphone-Free Childhood, is leading the UK’s “fight against a phone-based childhood” with a community of over 100,000 parents.
- Dr Jim Winston, Board Chair of WiFi (Winston Family Initiative in Adolescent Brain Development and Technology), has more than 30 years of experience as a clinician in psychology, with extensive experience observing and treating patients with addiction.
- Professor Marco Gui, Associate Professor at University Milano-Bicocca and Co-founder of Patti Digitali, a leading expert on the relationship between digital media use and well-being.
- Moderator: Chris McKenna, Founder of Protect Young Eyes and Executive Director of the PYE Foundation, is a leading advocate for digital safety and the moderator for the inaugural episode.
