‘Human Change Insights’ is a three-part series of episodes launched as part of our activities in the lead-up to Davos to engage, educate and empower parents, teachers, academics, policymakers and the medical community on the negative consequences digital devices can have on children’s cognitive development and wellbeing.
Our second episode aired on 14 November 2024, titled “Regulating the Internet: From the Kid’s Online Safety Act in the U.S. to the UK’s Online Safety Act – are governments doing enough to protect our children?”. Our panellists discussed the global wave of new legislation underway that is aimed at ensuring the internet is a safer space for children.
Our speakers were:
- Chris McKenna, Founder of Protect Young Eyes and Executive Director of the PYE Foundation, a leading advocate for digital safety, and the moderator for Human Change Insights’ inaugural episode.
- Professor Gaia Bernstein, Technology, Privacy and Policy Professor of Law at Seton Hall Law School and author of “Unwired: Gaining control over addictive technologies.” Professor Bernstein recently developed a nationally acclaimed Student-Parent Outreach Program addressing screen overuse and its implications for privacy and online reputation.
- Jessica Elefante, an interdisciplanary writer, artists and tech critic. Jessica is not only the founder of Folk Rebellion; she has also been lending her expertise on tech and media as co-chair for Mothers Against Media Addiction.
- Adam Ingle, the Global Lead for Digital Policy at the LEGO Group, where he helps LEGO maintain high standards of safety, privacy and security in their digital products, and also advocates for policy that empowers children online.
